Help from an unexpected quarter

Post image for Help from an unexpected quarter

Yesterday morning I got down an assortment of cookery books from the shelf, idly flicking through for ideas for something lovely to cook for our friends on Saturday night. Uninspired, I left them in a big untidy pile on the living room floor to come back to later (some Bill Grangers and Nigel Slaters if you really need to know)…

Upon my return a few hours later, deposited with great precision and care right next to the books was a very dead mouse, perfectly arranged in the fashion of something delicate and expensive just unwrapped from delicatessen.

You looked like you needed ideas, we bought you a mystery ingredient
Was it Ernie, the bookish one who is always around the house when I am discussing with the OH about “more local food”, “less food miles” etc etc. Or was it Bert, the house adventurer and hunter of rarities from further afield?

Sleepy cat
p.s Roger and Nuria if you are reading this don’t worry – I have thrown it away!

ah…what a thoughtful kitty! we have one like that but the “presents” are never neatly displayed…if you get my drift. Anyway, thank SO much for submitting your wonderful blog to Delightfulblogs. I’ve just added it to the directory and can’t wait to try out some of your recipes.
Best,
Lynda

Cats are so generous! I just wish that mine would always leave their gifts in a recognizable form. :)

Ah, cats. You gotta love ’em, even if they are a pain from time to time. At least the mouse was dead. My cat would catch them and present them to us very much alive and unhurt, which terrified my mother and would leave me and Dad chasing the thing around the living room for hours.

Cool, I’m glad other people are getting plenty of “presents” too!

Ouch! – This is by the part of my brain that is for some reason afraid of mice’n’rats… brrrrr… apart from slugs, the only animals i cringe from. yes, bring in the spiders and the snakes!
And now the other part of the brain gets a chance to react: – Here’s another example of pet love. Sweet, if you think about it, and forget about the mouse.:)
I’ve had a similar display of affection of my cat when I was a kid. The cat brought us a mouse, and left it on our doorstep – on Christmas Eve! Would you believe it! :)
Very nice pictures, btw! I adore cats, too!
