In reply to <a href="http://www.mostlyeating.com/shake-up-your-wake-up/comment-page-1#comment-2588">Arwen from Hoglet K</a>.

Hi Arwen,

That's a good question re oats and soluble fibre. Oats have substantially more soluble fibre than other commonly consumed grains which is why they tend to be singled out, but there's definitely some in Barley too. I will have a read and see if anything new has been published recently.

Some of those look great, and maybe not just for breakfast. I've just revisited your skirlie post, and I wondered if oats are the only grain with soluble fibre, or if there are others too?

Hi Johanna, I know that you have lots of imaginative breakfast ideas on your blog too and your potato scones idea sounds great. I have the chickpeas bookmarked as a dinner possibility too, maybe with naan and/or a poached egg.

Kathryn, I'm in a bit of a breakfast rut too. With plenty of early starts it has been a steady rotation of cereal, porridge and toast. I don't blame you with the hot weather - we have the opposite problem here and so cold yogurt and fruit just doesn't appeal and I've been warming the milk for me cereal.

Elaine, I know exactly what you mean about conference breakfasts. It's so easy to over indulge with all of those treats and the sheer variety. I hope your conference is an interesting one

What a brilliant theme, Sophie. I'd never heard of Farmhouse Breakfast Week before. I think Canada has to adopt some of these creative U.K. healthy eating campaigns.

Thanks for rounding up all these tasty links & recipes, too. The beans on toast sounds very appealing. Tomorrow I'll be having a very early breakfast at the conference I'm attending -- I'll keep the research in mind as it can be so tempting to over-indulge at these events. I hope there will be oatmeal and berries -- your photo proves how appetizing this combo can be.

I *really* need to shake up my breakfast choices. I've been quite uninspired recently, having the same thing over and over, which is really not like me. I think it's the heat we're in at the moment. Makes everything seem like a big effort. Anyway, time to shake up that mindset as well, so I'm going enjoy having a read and tryout of these.

farmhouse breakfasts sound delicious - reminds me I should make more of an effort with breakfast - one of my favourites is potato scones with lots of fried veg on top - but haven't made it for ages - have my eye on the chickpeas on toast - sounds like - as with all good breakfasts because I am a savoury breakfast person - that I would enjoy it for dinner
